Making good music is one of those requirements that’s a given, but I am also interested in bands that understand the importance of and take the time to cultivate an interesting visual image. The first picture in this set is the reason I’m here posting this now. I passed by it at the top of an article a few months back and thought “Great picture. Right click. Save.” Then I read the accompanying article and, seeing how enthusiastic the fans were, decided to give their music a try. (At that time, I could count the number of songs I could accurately identify as Depeche Mode songs on two fingers — In Sympathy and Only When I Lose Myself.) I was looking for something new to listen to and the commenters on the article seemed enthusiastic enough, so I figured why not? I wiped my mp3 player clean and loaded it up with as much DM as I could get my hands on. That was almost 4 months ago, and I’ve been listening to almost nothing else since. Never underestimate the power of a good picture.
